OVERVIEW: Pelvic Pain is common, with 1 in 4 women and 1 in 12 men affected at some stage of their lives; All practitioners will regularly have these clients attend their sessions.

The following points will be covered in detail to help you understand these conditions.

  • What are the most common pelvic pain complaints
  • Who is affected by these complaints
  • Considerations to help avoid pain flares for your clients
  • Principles of management for pelvic pain
  • Interdisciplinary approach to care and your role in the patient’s recovery

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Elizabeth Howard is an osteopath with 20 years’ experience in the treatment and management of acute and chronic pain. She has a special interest in holistic pain education, pelvic pain and has work as a part of the integrated WHRIA team for 5 years. Her roles at WHRIA range from clinical programming of sacral neuromodulators for intractable neuropathic pelvic pain, manual and exercise therapy, pain education, clinical research, facilitating pain education and self-management via pelvic pain groups, website and social media.

Elizabeth graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Clinical Science) and a Bachelor of Osteopathic Science, and has completed a Master of Science in Medicine (Pain Management).

Elizabeth has lectured at the University of Western Sydney and continues to guest lecture students and health professionals Australiawide, including an orthopaedic hospital in Mumbai, India. She is a trained facilitator with the Australian Pain Management Association, consults for Boston Scientific Neuromodulation Australia, and trains workplaces to reduce injuries via incorporating the latest in pain science into manual handling training.
